I can't wait for this Friday. The Firefly movie, Serenity, opens, and I've decided I'm going to foresake KMFDM to go check this out. It was a fantastic series, and I'm amazed at the community that's risen out of a single season of television. Both amongst the fans and the show's makers and cast.

For evidence of how awesome this show is, I present the following:

well it will probably only last a day in theatres so it makes sense to blow off the concert :p

Yeah, I know I could see it another night. But another night wouldn't be opening night, and I've been looking forward to this for quite some time.

Given the choice between Serenity's opening night, and seeing KMFDM for the second time in a year and a bit, I'll choose Serenity.

i used to think that way about opening nights. but you knoe unless its like the chinese theatre in like hollywood or at a film fest or with the actual cast memebers... it might as well be anyother day. its not like it's gonna be any different. i dunno i guess it's fun to pretend but i kinda hung that up.

I prefer seeing things that are important to me on opening night simply because it lessens the chances of skips or scratches in the film. I hate having a second or two of dialogue chopped because I waited an extra week-and-a-half to go see the film.

B knew that dude from the theatre/film community back when they all lived in Edmonton.

We've got advance press passes for tonight (mmm, the perks of being a journalist), but don't worry I won't spoil it for ya.

I could've gotten advance tickets for tonight (ah, the perks of having worked in a games store), but I haven't had the time to arrange it, so Friday I will go! Hopefully, B thinks that Nathan is just as awesome as he appears to be.

I've also been really looking forward to Serenity. I still can't believe it was canceled. Joss had such a novel concept behind the series. Combine that with his ability to build up the characters while telling an amazing story and it becomes gold.

I however, *will* be going to KMFDM. I missed them last year due to midterms. This year, both my school and work schedule has permitted me to attend their show. And as I have no idea when such a phenomenon may occur again, I must take advantage of it. But Rena and I have plans of venturing out to see the movie together at the next possible moment.

Wed, Sep. 28th, 2005 04:59 pm (UTC)

Totally understandable. I've seen KMFDM twice now, so I'm willing to foresake it this time.

I have a hard time getting past the "Bonanza in Space" feeling I get from that show.
Seriously, what civilization that can travel the stars would still dress and talk like cowboys (complete with horses)

Perhaps if I'd given it a chance (perhaps if it felt more like Wild Wild West....)...

Wed, Sep. 28th, 2005 05:02 pm (UTC)

A civilization with a core and a frontier? :)

Seriously, though, horses on undeveloped planets make sense. What else are you going to use? ATVs? Where are you going to get the fuel for that? You don't have enough manpower to run a refinery. Shipped in from off-world? Man, that'll cost you a bundle...

Yes, Firefly was designed to be a combination of wild west themes and motifs written upon a science fiction background. I think it worked well -- particularly in exploring how the wild west conceits could give a fairly detailed understanding of existentialism.

I've made up an excuse to leave work early so I can sneak off to see it opening night. : )

Wed, Sep. 28th, 2005 05:03 pm (UTC)

Awesome. So we'll be seeing it together, alas a continent apart. ;)

Enjoy the honey-roasted peanuts, Nathan!* That picture rules.

I also will be seeing this movie at some point this weekend although I might actually go Friday day.

*My new catch-phrase.

Wed, Sep. 28th, 2005 05:04 pm (UTC)

I approve of your new catch-phrase!

I'm not sure when I'll be seeing it -- hopefully the early show, Friday night. I take it you've wached the whole series so far...?

I was hoping you would be coming to the concert as we are celebrating PPP's birthday there.

I want to see this even though I haven't seen the series. I'm probably going on Saturday.

Wed, Sep. 28th, 2005 05:05 pm (UTC)

Sorry, I would've come out to PPPs birthday shindig at the concert if I'd known in advance. As it is now, I can't afford to do both, and as I've said, I've already seen KMFDM twice.

If you want to see the series, I can loan it to you, at some point. It's only about 14 episodes long.

Wed, Sep. 28th, 2005 05:25 pm (UTC)

No problem. I thought you were going to the concert, that's the reason I didn't say anything. Yeah I know the 'assume' quote fits here.

I definitely would like to borrow it. We should meet up for coffee, so I can borrow that, return your Cthulu book (which was great, thanks), and get that mysterious item you mentioned when we ambumshed you in July.

Coffee can be whatever time is best for you.

Hey Geza, gimme a shout or drop me a line to let me know when you're going. I may just join you.

Wed, Sep. 28th, 2005 05:18 pm (UTC)

For sure, man. E-mail your cell number to gezaechs AT hotmail DOT com

I'll probably know tomorrow what time I'll be going.

Dude, can you unlock this post? I need to share this with my friends in the States!

Done and done.

.... I loved watching him since he played... well... he played somebody on the soap opera One life to live... and his character got together with Dorian. It was one of those big age difference stories... I thought it was a shame when they switched actors again. (which happens alot in the soap opera world) That char has never been the same for me :P

Thu, Sep. 29th, 2005 06:47 am (UTC)

He was in One Life To Live? Huh, didn't know that.

But that shouldn't come as a surprise, since I loathe soap operas. ;)

Have you ever visited the original Firefly boards? It's been there since the TV show began and Adam Baldwin is a regular poster there. You should stop by sometime.
